Consider this:
Every hour in the United States,
2 people between the ages of 13 and 24
are infected with HIV.

That's a lot of people. So many in fact, that, if you don't already know someone with HIV, you probably will.

Sorry for the heavy warning, but HIV is a HUGE problem among young people, and you need to know about it.

You also need to know that you have the power to HELP STOP THE SPREAD OF HIV.

How You Can Prevent The Spead Of HIV:

  1. Invite the Love Heals Speakers Bureau to lead a workshop at your school or community center.
    (Go to Speakers Bureau)
  2. Encourage your teacher or advisor to order the
Ali Gertz: In Her Own Words Video and Lesson Guide.
    (Go to video)
  3. Display posters and/or brochures about HIV/AIDS in your school or community center.
  4. Organize an event on December 1st, World AIDS Day.
  5. Hold a fundraiser — such as a car wash, dance-a-thon or bake sale — to benefit an AIDS organization.
  6. Train to be an HIV/AIDS peer educator and lead workshops in your community.
  7. Find out about the HIV/AIDS resources at your school.
  8. Arrange to have part of the AIDS Memorial Quilt (http://www.aidsquilt.org/) displayed at your school or community group.
  9. Volunteer for an organization that serves people living with HIV/AIDS.
  10. Educate yourself about HIV/AIDS and use that knowledge to protect yourself by making responsible choices.

For additional information on HIV/AIDS and how you can get involved, check out the Resource Center.
